Description
Flabellum moseleyi - cupcoral on the seabed. Several specimens of this animal were obtained and identified by Sheila Marques Pauls UNIVERSIDAD CENTRAL DE VENEZUELA FACULTAD DE CIENCIA Instituto de Zoología Tropical Museo de Biología The identification details are below Familia Flabellidae Flabellum moseleyi Pourtales, 1880 Fig. 2 Flabellum moseleyi Pourtales, 1880. Sinonímia: en Cairns (1979) Material: SE/300707/019 #1 (1 ej., 27x22 mm por 20 mm de alto), SE/310707/020 #1, 545 m prof. (2 ej., 25x21 mm por 19 mm de alto; 35x28 mm por 26 mm de alto) Diagnosis: Coralum solitario, libre (adultos), de forma trocoide a ceratoide, lateralmente comprimido, con una base cónica curvada en aproximadamente 90o y terminando en un pedicelo delgado. Cálice elíptico (máximo 7.0 x 6.0 cm de diámetro), aserrado con los septos S1 y S2 de igual tamaño y proyectándose mas allá del margen del cálice. Columela ausente. Color marrón rojizo. Distribución en Venezuela: nor-este de Los Testigos (Cairns 1979). Distribución batimétrica: 216 - 1097 m de profundidad según Cairns (1979). En Venezuela está reportado para 598 m de profundidad Observación: F. moseleyi es una especie ampliamente distribuida, en fondos blandos de más de 200 m de profundidad, a través del Caribe y Golfo de México.
